James MacHaffie, PhD
James MacHaffie is the founder and director of intelligence and research of the political risk and strategic intelligence firm JKM Intel Solutions, specializing in the Indo-Pacific region. Prior to that Dr. MacHaffie worked for over fifteen years as a research analyst for the U.S. Government, academia, think tanks, and in private industry. His research focuses on trust building in alliances, alliance management, rivalry de-escalation, Russian-Chinese relations, cybersecurity, maritime and regional security issues. He is the author of The Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Conflict De-escalation: Trust Building and Interstate Rivalries with Routledge, as well as articles in Defence Studies, Asian Security, Comparative Strategy, China Report, among others. He holds masters’ degrees in international relations and strategic studies, and a doctorate in international relations from the University of Leicester.
